Steven Gerrard will once again take to the Anfield pitch for Liverpool in a charity game against Chelsea that will also feature Peter Crouch.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  The game, scheduled for March 22, will see Gerrard team up with several former teammates as they rekindle an old rivalry against their former Premier League foes. The 44-year-old has been out of management since departing Al-Ettifaq in January, following a disappointing spell that left the Saudi club struggling in 12th place. Now, he will turn his attention to a more familiar setting – Anfield – where he is expected to receive a rousing reception from Liverpool fans as part of a legends team.

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Gerrard will not be the only familiar face lining up for the Liverpool legends. Former teammates Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Dirk Kuyt, and Peter Crouch are all confirmed to be taking part in the match, adding to the nostalgia of the event. The highly anticipated fixture is being organised to raise funds for the LFC Foundation, which is committed to addressing health inequalities across the Liverpool City Region. Meanwhile, a part of the proceeds will also go to Chelsea Foundation and in particular, the Chelsea Players' Trust.

  While Liverpool’s side will boast fan-favourite names, Chelsea Legends will also have plenty of stars from the club’s past. The Blues will be represented by Gianfranco Zola, Gary Cahill, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Frank Sinclair, all of whom played vital roles in Chelsea’s success over the years.

  Leading the Chelsea Legends from the touchline will be Roberto Di Matteo, the man who masterminded the club's 2012 Champions League triumph.

  Gerrard has previously participated in charity matches against Ajax and Celtic, with last year’s game drawing a sold-out crowd of 60,000 at Anfield.
